Denmark/Canary Islands Photo Gallery
Over winter break, I went to Denmark with my family to visit my brother, who had been there for 4 months studying abroad. We then traveled to the Canary Islands (which is just off the coast of North Africa, although it technically is a part of Spain).
Again, while traveling in Europe, I was shocked by the number of people who spoke fluent English in addition to 3-4 other languages. In Copenhagen, most signs are in both Danish and English while in the Canary Islands, while everything is written in Spanish, English, and German, many restaurants also have 12 versions of their menus, each written in a different language. I saw people switch from English to Spanish to Norwegian more times than I could count and almost felt bad for my lack of knowledge of other languages (for all I know is English and a bit of Spanish).
Since I was in Denmark over Christmas, all of Copenhagen was decked out with decorations (fun fact: in Denmark, people celebrate Christmas on the 24th). While I was there, I walked through the streets of Copenhagen, went on a canal tour, explored Tivoli, went to Nyhaven, looked at art exhibits in the Louisiana, went to a castle/fortress, and walked in an arboretum. Here are photos from my trip to Denmark:
I went to Gran Canaria, and explored Maspalomas, Meloneras, and Playa de Mogán, as well as going on a 4+ hour drive on a VERY narrow road into the interior of the island and exploring some sand dunes. Here are photos from my time in the Canary Islands:
